Habitat: tropical sub-Saharan Africa, Madagascar, Asia, some islands across the Indian Ocean, Australia, America.
Description: Dicotyledonous plants that grow into large trees with tender wood and often covered in spines. The leaves are hairy, deciduous, palmate and the flowers quite large. The seeds stay viable for many years.
Soil: basic mix.
Location: full sun.
Temperature: keep at a minimum temperature of 12°C (54°F).
Water: average.
Cultivation tips: growing them in small containers results in a more expanded caudex.
Main genera: Adansonia, Bombax, Chorisia
