Habitat:
mountains of Peru, Bolivia,
Equador and Chile.
Description: a very diverse genus of cacti, often with a shrub-like
habit and upright or sprawling stems. Some plants grow in foggy deserts at
sea level, others at altitudes above 2000 m (6500 ft). The areoles bear long
bristles and red flowers. It’s synonymous with Bolivicereus
and has been recently put under the genus Cleistocactus.
Soil: basic mix.
Location: place in full sun.
Temperature: minimum temperature between 4 and 6°C (39-43°F).
Water: average; during the growing period they enjoy a certain amount
of moisture in the air.
Cultivation tips: easy and fast-growing; propagation is either from
seed or cutting.
Main species:
B. madisoniorum,
often grafted; B. samaipatanus.
B. aureispinus, syn. Hildewintera: it can be crossed with Lobivia,
Echinopsis, Trichocereus, Loxanthocereus, Chamaecereus, Helianthocereus,
Bolivicereus, Akersia, Matucana, Seticereus.
