Description: a genus of globular plants, often cylindrical when
mature, with separate, closely-spaced ribs covered with slightly curved
spines. Scaly, long-tubed flowers with protruding stamens appear near the
top; they are followed by spherical red fruits.
Soil: basic mix.
Location: full sun or dappled light in an airy site.
Temperature: minimum of 6°C
(43°F).
Water: average.
Cultivation tips: raise from seed.
Main species: D. rhodacantha; D. erythrocephala.
