Habitat: foggy deserts of Chile and Peru.
Description: columnar, tree-like cacti having conspicuous areoles with tufts of long white hairs. Formerly included in the genus Cereus.
Soil: basic mix.
Location: full sun.
Temperature: minimum temperature of 6-8°C
(43-46°F).
Water: average but controlled. Spray water during the growing season.
Cultivation tips: this genus is not popular among growers; it requires high humidity levels. Propagation is from seed or cuttings.
Main species: E. iquiquensis; E. acida; E. breflora;
E. saint-pieana; E. castanea; E. floresiana; E. longispina.
