Habitat:
Guatemala, Mexico.
Description: cacti with slender, branched, sometimes dentate stems,
that may produce flexuous runners. They flower reliably once reached
maturity. The funnel-shaped, large, fragrant flowers open during the day in
the summer and are long-lasting.
Soil: fertile mix.
Location: grow in partial shade.
Temperature: the minimum temperature should stay above 8-10°C
(46-50°F). They enjoy warm conditions.
Water: let the soil dry for a week from March to September; water
once a month the rest of the year.
Cultivation tips: if temperatures are kept above 20°C (68°F) the
plants have no rest period, they may show an epiphytic habit.
Spraying some water is beneficial
also when plants are resting. Propagate from stem cuttings.
Main species: H. speciosus; H. cinnabarinus.
