Habitat:
Mexico,
southern areas of United States, Central America, Peru.
Description: a group of diverse plants, whose taxonomy is still
debated, with upright or decumbent, sometimes branching habit. The apical or
lateral flowers are bell-shaped. It is synonymous with Machaerocereus.
They are often grouped under the genus Stenocereus. Polaskia is a
subgenus within Lemaireocereus now moved under Pachycereus.
Soil: mineral mix.
Location: grow in full sun.
Temperature: the minimum should stay around 10°C (50°F).
Water: average with
some spraying
during the period of rest.
Cultivation tips: they’re slow-growing and can be propagated from
seed or by rooting offsets. A large window box makes an ideal container.
Main species: L. eburneus; L. pruinosus; L. thurberi.
