Habitat:
desert
regions of Peruvian mountains.
Description: a genus of cespitose, columnar cacti branching from the
base. The diurnal, pink or purple flowers consist of a large tube holding
the corolla.
They may have synonyms in Neochilenia or in Pyrrhocactus.
Soil: basic mix.
Location: full sun.
Temperature: overwinter at a minimum of 8°C (46°F).
Water: average.
Cultivation tips: they show an irregular growth pattern and will do
best when grafted.
Main species: N. gigantea, synymous with N. peruviana and N.
arequipensis; N. roseiflora.
