Habitat:
Cultivar.
Description: a group of hybrids obtained by crossing Epiphyllum,
Echinopsis, Nopalxochia, Hylocereus, Heliocereus, all having flat, leaf-like
stems. During the spring, sometimes in other periods of the year, they
produce some of the most spectacular flowers among cacti. The adventitious
roots on the stems enable the plant to absorb moisture from the air.
Soil: fertile mix.
Location: they prefer partial shade; do not place in full sun. They
will do best if grown outdoors in a well ventilated site during the warm
months.
Temperature: minimum temperature of 10°C (50°F).
Water: do not let the soil become bone dry, especially during the
growing period; keep moderately moist in the wintertime.
Cultivation tips: propagate from cuttings in the spring or summer.
Apply fertilizer every 15 days (20,20,20 ratio plus microelements). These
plants enjoy a warm and humid environment all year round, so they should be
frequently sprayed with water at room temperature; they resent being
transplanted.
Main species: hybrids flowering in a wide range of colours.
E. "Ackermannii"; E. "Alba superbus"; E. "Ballyshavel";
E. "Chauncey"; E. "Dreamland"; E. "Marseillaise".
