Habitat: Brazil, West Indies, Central America and northern part of South America.
Description: a genus of rather large, columnar cacti with a bluish or grayish-green stem. At maturity, plants develop a kind of bristly cephalium from which nocturnal flowers of various colors arise in the summer. They have a few synonyms in the genera Cephalocereus and Pseudopilosocereus.

Temperature: the ideal minimum temperature is around 10-12°C (50-54°F).

Cultivation tips: slow growing plants that can be propagated from seed or cutting, the latter best taken in the summer.
