Habitat: Mexico.
Description: a globular genus, growing in deserts, which has woolly areoles on the tubercles, pectinate spines that do not harm if touched and a large, fleshy root. In the spring, pink flowers appear near the top.
It is synonymous with Solisia and includes Encephalocarpus.
Soil: mineral mix.
Location: provide sunny and airy conditions in the summer and overwinter in a cool dry environment.
Temperature: the ideal minimum temperature is 8°C (46°F). During the vegetative period, they enjoy a certain amount of air humidity at night.
Water: average with caution.
Cultivation tips: these plants are very slow-growing and will do best in clay pots that allow the soil to dry out more quickly.
Main species of Pelecyphora: Pelecyphora strobiliformis, syn. Encephalocarpus s.; Pelecyphora pectinata;
Pelecyphora aselliformis, has violet flowers and is relatively easy; water from April to September every 15 days. Grow in full sun and keep the minimum around 5°C (41°F); Pelecyphora valdeziana, solitary, dwarf plants needing full sun, little water and mineral substrate; min. 6°C (43°F).
